The role of the sports council is outlined in its Christchurch and District Sports Council Constitution.

Sports achievement awards for Christchurch
The sports council coordinates the Physical Activity Network for Christchurch and it's immediate area and also hosts the sports achievement awards.
The annual awards ceremony celebrates local people and their achievements in sport.
There are five different awards that can be won, which are:
- bronze award for county or regional success
- silver award for national success
- gold award for international success
- dedication to sport award which recognises the contribution of an individual to a particular club or to a particular sport
- John Moss Sports Coaches award for an individual's contribution to coaching

Anyone can nominate an individual for an award. If you know a sports star, young or old, who has achieved success this year, or a particularly dedicated coach or volunteer then nominate them.
