Tree maintenance and surgery
The Landscape and Countryside Team are responsible for the management and maintenance of the council’s tree stock and for Highway trees in the Christchurch Area.
This work includes carrying out tree inspections, providing advice and guidance to neighbours, as well as preparing documents for planning purposes for development sites. Work required is normally undertaken by qualified tree surgeons after assessment by qualified arboricultural staff on Highways and Amenity Space. On Countryside sites tree work is undertaken by qualified staff in house, or by approved contractors elsewhere.
The Landscape & Countryside Team undertake or arrange (where necessary) a full range of arboricultural tasks on its trees including:
- transplanting of young and semi-mature trees
- crown lifting
- crown reduction and thinning
- removal of deadwood
- stump grinding
- hedge translocation
- climbing inspections
- veteran tree management
