Slipways in Christchurch

Information on public slipways at Mayors Mead, Bridge Street and Mudeford Quay in Christchurch and the charges that apply.

Mayors Mead - River Stour

This council-owned slipway gives access to the River Stour through Mayors Mead car park, Wick Lane, BH23 1HU. There is currently no charge for using this slipway. This slipway should only be used at or near high tide.

Trailer parking is permitted within the designated area adjacent to the slipway where trailers require a parking ticket in addition to the one for your vehicle.

Bridge Street - River Avon

This slipway is free of charge and gives access to the River Avon directly from Bridge Street. The access point is adjacent to the Bridge Street car park, BH23 1EB. Trailer parking facilities are not available.

Mudeford Quay - Lower Harbour

This slipway gives access to the harbour and the harbour entrance through Mudeford Quay car park. Seasonal charges apply from Easter to the end of September.

Trailer parking is permitted within the designated area adjacent to the slipway for up to 48 hours free of charge.

River, harbour and seashore speed limits

All vessels must observe the speed limit of 4 nautical miles per hour on the River Stour and within Christchurch Harbour as described in Byelaw 43.

A speed limit of 8 nautical miles per hour must be observed on the sea within 810 feet of the low water mark of medium tides as outlined in Byelaw 32.

Personal water craft

With effect from January 2016 we will no longer be running the personal watercraft registration scheme.  PWCs can still be launched from slipways and the above charges apply during peak times at Mudeford Quay when the slipway is manned.
