Boat moorings in Christchurch

BCP Council has a lease of the lower harbour. Here you can see the mooring facilities offered.

Trots moorings on south-east side of the harbour

Maintenace work - January 2019

At the end of the 2018 season the trot licences were not renewed as inspections of the site found that sections of the chain were damaged and a replacement chain was required.

Funding has been secured for the replacement chain and we are in the process of appointing a contractor, with work provisionally planned for the spring. The timetable for the work has yet to be determined.

A further update will be published in March 2019.

Moorings

Prior to the chain renewal, there were 61 moorings, 12 suitable for boats up to 30ft (9.14m) and the remainder for boats up to 25ft (7.62m). These moorings have reasonable shelter from Hengistbury Head. There is no vehicle access on this side of the harbour and a tender is required to access them.

The location of the moorings in the south-east of the harbour can be seen on the Google map below, click on the markers for each mooring's tag.

Self-laid moorings at Mudeford in the north-eastern part of the harbour

There are up to 100 licences issued annually for self-laid moorings in this area. There are car parking facilities and a slipway on Mudeford Quay. Boats drawing more than 2ft 6 inches (0.79m) are restricted due to tides. At low tide boats must be able to sit on the sea bed. The location of the Self-laid moorings located in the north-eastern part of the harbour & Trots moorings located on the south-east side of the harbour can be viewed on the map below.
