Help with the cost of travel

Bus pass

You may be able to get a bus pass which gives you free bus travel in Dorset. You can use the bus pass:
  • Monday to Friday during off peak times
  • anytime during the weekend or public holidays

If you are blind or partially sighted you can get free travel throughout the week.

If you need to travel during peak time, and you're in college or further education, you may be able to get a student pass bus. A student bus pass will make your travel cheaper. Contact a Dorset bus operator to find out your options.

Discounted travel


Disabled Persons railcard

You can apply for a Disabled Persons railcard. This will get you a 1/3 off an adult train fare for you and a family member, carer or friend.

You can get discounted travel with selected travel companies with an NUS Extra card. This could include discounts on:
  • short and long distance train journeys
  • coach/bus journeys
  • overseas travel
  • driving lessons

If claiming, you can use the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments to help towards your travel costs.
