The Max Card

Please note that from 1 April 2019 - families will be transferred to the 'Add-On' register,  and will be issued with the Add-On Max Card.

What is the Dorset Max Card?

The Dorset Max Card is a discount and benefits card for disadvantaged children and young people. This includes those registered on The Xchange. The card gives the owner, and one other person, free or discounted access or benefits at a range of venues and organisations across Dorset and beyond.

The card can only be used by the child that the card is registered to so please do not lend to anyone else.

Who can use one?

The card is available to:

Who is eligible for the Max Card
CriteriaHow long is the card valid for?
Group A All Dorset (excluding Bournemouth and Poole) based young carers, children in care, some care leavers. Cards are issued for a limited time but can be renewed.
Group B All children and young people who are disabled and registered on The Xchange and living in Dorset (excluding Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole). The card is age banded and can last for up to 4 years.

How to apply for a card

Group A

If you are in group A, a card will be issued through the young carers team or through the Children in Care Services.

Group B

You will receive a card when joining the Xchange. Please note, that from 1 April 2019, Christchurch resident families will no longer be able to join the Xchange, and will instead be able to join the Add-On register. Families joining Add-On will be issued with the Add-On Max Card. Christchurch families who have already been issued with a Dorset Max Card will be able to keep and use it until its expiry date.

Where can the card be used?

You can use the Max Card to get free/reduced rate entry or discounts at lots of places in Dorset. Our list of participating venues is growing all the time, these include:

  • museums
  • leisure centres
  • activity venues such as Avon Heath and the Sealife Centre
  • some shops and cafe's

See our list of venues on the scheme.

Details of the venues

We recommend contacting the venue before visiting to check they're still part of the scheme and for up-to-date details including:

  • opening times
  • price
  • to check the current discounts on offer
  • their provision for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities

Help improve the Dorset Max Card

If you'd like a venue (not currently on our list) to be part of the scheme you can:

  • let us know and we will speak to the venue about joining
  • tell the manager of the venue and ask them to contact the Xchange Co-ordinator

If you come across a venue who is a member of the scheme but they do not recognise the card, let us know so we can solve the issue. Sometimes changes in staff or ownership can lead to confusion.
