Day Nurseries
Day nurseries care for babies and children up to the age of five.
When are they open?
Day nurseries are open all year round, with the majority offering care from 8am to 6pm. Locally there are several nurseries that offer extended hours, so it is worth double-checking. Most also offer part-time places.
Food
Day nurseries can provide a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner and can cater for individual dietary requirements.
What do they offer?
They help prepare children for when they start school. They familiarise children with routines and provide a safe environment for children to learn about themselves and the world around them.
Children are encouraged to become more independent and do things for themselves. From small tasks like pouring their own water and helping set snack tables, to making decisions about which activities to take part in. This helps children to discover a sense of self to build their confidence.
Within day nurseries and pre-schools, children are often cared for within smaller groups based on their age and development. This allows staff to tailor activities depending on where each child is within their development. Outdoor play should be accessible throughout the session.
